In this episode host Mark Seavey is joined by American Legion Assistant Editor Jeremy Field to discuss how a fortuitous tryout set into motion a Hall of Fame baseball career for pitcher Lee Smith. Lee Smith had an 18-year Major League Baseball career with the Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, California Angels, Cincinnati Reds, and the Montreal Expos.

Smith retired in 1997 as the all-time saves leader. The baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y., induction occurred July 21, 2019. Smith was inducted alongside fellow Legion Baseball alums, Harold Baines, Roy Halladay and Mike Mussina, as well as Mariano Rivera and Edgar Martinez.
